Regular people helping regular people
The only reason I am writing this is because I happened to be born in a part of the world where I had easy access to better myself and I chose to act on the help and advice people around me gave me. I had things and to spare. If my life played out differently and I was born in a different part of the world, odds are high I wouldn’t be in the situation I am now. Either situation I would be regular, trying my best with the opportunities I have.
What I am trying to say is I am where I am not completely because of who I am, but because of the amazing environment that uplifted me on my way, not because I am special or unique in anyway.
We want to help those that could have easily been us (or were us in some situations) be lifted in areas where they could use a little extra oomph for lack of better words. Make their efforts to grow and be their best selves easier.
Some of our beliefs:
All our successes came because someone else helped us somewhere along the way
Wholesome environments help people succeed
Handouts don’t help in the long term, but it doesn’t mean they don’t help
Knowledge is power, but so is having your basic needs met
How we work:
We strive to pick up projects that once set up we do not have to maintain
We work with local people, schools, and government organizations, and do not pretend like we know it all
We buy local, we only bring non-local items in our extra checked baggage when there is space.
We frequently figure out how to do things along the way
We don’t always get right the first time, but sometimes we do!
We learn from our mistakes and are as transparent as possible
